Cordial Mystique, a soundtrack album by Zydewinder(ZTPrapheephat + atiryc), created for Thailand Game Jam X OST Composing Jam under a theme "Close to Me" by text. According to the theme's keyword, we came up with a concept described as:
"A celestial journey through the heart of human connection, where the vastness of space meets the intimacy of personal bonds. Existing upon such massive fabric of universe, experiencing the profound beauty of feeling connected yet afar, reminding you that even in the expanse of the cosmos, we are never truly alone."
To further elaborate in my perspective, the definition of "Close to Me" related to the universe is that we exist inside of it over and over throughout the species lifespan, making up every sorts of concepts about it and creating assumptions about it as if we really acknowledge and understand it. No matter what we do, the universe is always around us. We never truly apart from each other. We've been living together as if we're so close in the first place, leading to the feeling of being connected, the bond, the empathy, a thrilling reminder that we are never alone.
The album consists of 4 songs, playing in order below:
1. Distant Longing: Produced by ZTPrapheephat. The song represents the wander of thoughts about exploring the seemingly-endless space without any goal at all, as if this massive universe is always calling. The glassy elements combining with breakbeat percussions to fill the emptiness, possibly builds up a subtle, surreal vibe to let you feel impressed.
2. Septima Labyrinthum: Produced by ZTPrapheephat. The name is from Latin, which can be translated to "Maze of 7th" or "Maze of Seventh", which can be heard as morse code sound in some parts of the song. The idea is that we sometimes concern about the existence of everything especially the universe itself, falling into a reverie of our own mind, the twist and turns of thoughts, as if it's a seamless maze. The seven in the title represents the song's time signature of 7/4, a difficult time signature to work with(for us), simulating the unusual feeling of being trapped in a confusion, complexity of one's own sub conscious mind. The glassy elements, combining with experimental-like percussions, potentially builds up an uncomfortable atmosphere to experience a somewhat complexity of the song.
3. Nexum Levatus: Produced by atiryc. The name is once again from Latin, which can be translated to "Relieved Connection". It portrays the continuation of stress and concern from Septima Labyrinthum, but lastly given up due to excessively and unnecessarily overthinking stuffs. Instead, admiring the profound wonder of the cosmos, accept what reality could ever be, feeling relieved and connected. Now it's about pure familiarity and joy. The solid sound of reverb square lead combines with intense percussion, possibly builds up a sentimental feeling to let you admire the flow of the song.
4. Incandescent Serenity: Produced by ZTPrapheephat. It represents the final mindset of the empathy between us and the universe, leading to the feeling at peace. Once understanding the relation of two objectively different beings, the bond of our heart through the cosmos, a mind seeking for relief, everything, all seems to end up with happiness towards the dark void of space we never ever learned enough about. By now and then, the wander of thoughts about our connection to the universe remains till the end of time, just as called "Cordial Mystique". The energetic elements combines with fast and intense percussions, potentially builds up the feeling of joy and peace to let you feel impressed.
I personally don't make video games, but in my opinion, these music are best suited for rich-story space adventure RPG or space-themed rhythm game.
The Digital Audio Workstation(DAW) we use is FL Studio both on PC and Mobile. Although we have little to no knowledge about music theory, we've been composing songs for many years by ears. We had fun creating this album by every seconds! I hope you like and enjoy it!
